Vocational Services

The Arc Otsego's Vocational Training Center offers individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience the pride of earning a paycheck while learning job skills in a supportive, light-manufacturing environment.

Individuals work with trained and dedicated staff to learn skills applicable to the work world, as well as the fundamentals of employer expectations such as arriving to work on time, practicing workplace safety, handling daily job assignment changes, meeting the production needs of employers, dressing appropriately for the job, getting along with co-workers, practicing self-advocacy, and understanding employee rights and responsibilities.

Each staff person — whether direct care, production supervisor, professional counselor, or support specialist — strives to ensure that each individual has multiple opportunities to achieve his or her personal and employment goals. As always, a person-centered approach guides the process, and work opportunities are tailored for the needs and desires of the individual.

At the Vocational Training Center, we operate with a can-do spirit, with special attention to workplace safety and health and celebrations of our accomplishments. Numerous events throughout the year celebrate our contributions to the businesses for whom we work and to our personal and organizational success.

Events and Awards

• Flash Awards — given every pay period in recognition of positive contribution to the workplace.
• September: Annual Vocational Training Center Labor Day Cookout and Picnic — training center staff cook and serve a barbecue lunch to everyone who works at the Vocational Training Center.
• October: National Disability Employment Awareness Month — includes a Training Center Open House, the Annual NYSID Meeting, and recognition of the Joslin Award winner.
• December: Annual Vocational Training Center Holiday Party — complete with a DJ and refreshments.
